Proyecto OriGen: The Beginning of a New Frontier for Science in Latin America

Proyecto oriGen is an ambitious genomic initiative led by TecSalud in collaboration with INMEGEN (Mexico's National Institute of Genomic Medicine). Its mission is to sequence the DNA of 100,000 Mexicans, making it one of the most comprehensive genomic studies in Latin America. The project addresses a significant gap in genetic research by focusing on underrepresented Latin American populations. By collecting and analyzing genetic data from diverse Mexican communities, it aims to improve the understanding of genetic predispositions to diseases like diabetes, cancer, and hypertension, and develop more effective, personalized medical treatments. This large-scale effort not only enhances precision medicine in Mexico but also contributes to global knowledge, as it fills a vital gap in genomic data from non-European populations.
